Fenner Dunlop is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Human Resources Generalist to join our team in Toledo, Ohio. Reporting directly to the Human Resources Manager for North America, this position serves as the primary point of contact for employees and plays a crucial role in supporting and executing HR strategies to ensure the facility meets the company's overarching people goals.

We strive to be the premier provider of the safest and most reliable conveyor belting and services to a variety of heavy industrial markets such as coal mining, hard rock mining, sand, gravel, wood handling, power generation, pulp and paper. Fenner Dunlop provides North American made belting, manufactured at our facilities located throughout the United States and Canada. For over 150 years, Fenner Dunlop has researched, designed, developed, manufactured, and tested its conveyor belting products, supporting nearly any type of conveyor application, and providing the right solutions to protect conveyor system investments in the harshest conveying environments.
What You'll Do
Recruitment & Staffing
- Prepares personnel forecasts to anticipate and fulfill employment needs through strategic workforce planning, recruitment, and retention of hourly and salaried employees at the manufacturing site.
- Manages all hiring, onboarding, promotions, transfers, demotions, and terminations at the assigned site.
- Develops and implements strategies to attract passive job seekers, including employer branding, career fairs, signage, and leveraging local recruitment tools.
- Conducts pre-employment screenings, applicant assessments, and processes all pre-hire and new hire paperwork.
Employee Relations
- Partners with management to address and resolve employee relations issues, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations to foster positive employer-employee relationships.
- Provides confidential employee counseling and referrals to employee assistance programs as needed.
- Attends production meetings and routinely visits the production floor to engage directly with employees across all shifts.
- Gathers employee and management feedback regarding morale and organizes regular events to improve engagement and satisfaction.
- Coordinates employee-focused events centered on engagement, recognition, feedback, and performance management.
HR Strategy & Policy Implementation
- Develops and executes HR strategies aligned with business goals to create a positive and trusting work environment.
- Implements HR and training policies and procedures at the site.
- Advises managers on organizational policy matters, disciplinary actions, and employment contracts.
- Collaborates with the Regional HR Manager to propose policy updates and improvements.
- Identifies gaps, needs, and opportunities for improvement in company policies, handbooks, and processes.
Training, Development & Safety
- Supports employees’ training and development needs, ensuring compliance and safety training requirements are met.
- Designs, develops, and manages individualized training plans, providing ongoing evaluation and feedback.
- Prepares training documentation, conducts new hire orientation, and coordinates onboarding schedules with hiring managers.
- Incorporates safety training into onboarding and continuous training programs, promoting a culture of safety throughout the site.
HR Administration
- Maintains an up-to-date HR system that meets organizational and employee needs while ensuring policy compliance.
- Creates and maintains accurate employee files and records, both electronically and in hard copy.
- Generates, analyzes, and presents HR and training reports and metrics on a regular basis (weekly, monthly, annually).
- Tracks headcount movements and reports to management.
- Assists supervisors with issuing corrective actions and ensures proper documentation in employee files.
- Prepares and provides management with requested reports and documents.
- Performs necessary administrative duties as required.
Customer Service
- Provides exceptional customer service to prospective and current employees, addressing inquiries related to employee benefits, job duties, working conditions, compensation, policies, training, and more.
- Assists employees with boot vouchers and reimbursement processes for work boots and glasses.
- Ensures timely ordering and delivery of supplies for manufacturing facilities to meet employee needs.
Additional Responsibilities
- Liaises with legal representation to minimize plant legal costs and represents the company in employee-related hearings and investigations.
- Prepares meetings for management, including room setup, catering arrangements, and other logistics.
- Adheres to a flexible work schedule based on business needs, with required availability during all shifts (typically 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.), ensuring equal time is spent engaging with off shifts.
- May be required to work outside of regular hours, including off shifts, at management’s discretion.
- Performs other duties as assigned by management.
What You'll Need
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business, or a related field.
- Minimum of five years of experience in Human Resources Management, including training responsibilities.
- Previous experience in a manufacturing environment is strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in working with HRIS systems.
- Demonstrates sound judgment and exceptional organizational, prioritization, and follow-through skills.
- Strong foundational knowledge and understanding of Human Resources principles, with confidence in HR and training capabilities.
- Comfortable and confident serving as the sole HR and training resource within the plant.
- High attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to compose, proofread, and meet deadlines in a multi-tasking environment.
- Ability to build rapport and maintain effective relationships across all levels of the organization.
- Self-starter mindset, with the ability to work independently and autonomously.
- High emotional intelligence, with the ability to foster positive and collaborative relationships through clear communication.
- Proven ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion and tact.
- Strong organizational skills and adaptability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- PHR or SPHR certification is a plus.
